Customer.io is rolling out an alternative billing option where we charge based on Monthly Active Users (MAU). Thank you for being a part of the pilot!
**A monthly active user is defined as someone who has a unique Customer.io ID and:**
- Generates a page or screen event
- Is identified by or performs a custom event tracked by Customer.io mobile or web SDKs
- Adds a device
Understand your bill
*Your Plans & Billing page provides details of your subscription and usage numbers.*
Your plan determines how many emails and monthly active users you're entitled to. Your plan's base fee is charged in advance and can be paid monthly or annually.
Usage is accrued and charged monthly, even if your plan is not paid monthly. On your billing date each month, you'll be charged for any overages from the previous monthly billing period. After usage is billed, it is reset for the new billing period.
Overages
Exceeding your contracted number of monthly active users and/or emails will result in overage charges. You can view the rates for your plan on your account billing page.
Example: monthly fee + usage
Assume you pay monthly on the 14th. On your billing date (the 14th of the month), we'll charge your card on file for:
- The base cost of your subscription plan for the *current* billing cycle (August 14 - September 13)
- Any overages from the *previous* billing cycle (July 14 - August 13)
Example: annual fee + monthly usage
Assume you pay your subscription plan on an annual basis(starting June 14th). We'll roll up usage monthly on the 14th. On your billing date, like August 14, we'll charge your card on file for any overages from the previous billing cycle (like July 14 - August 13).
