Using your data index

The Data Index is the place you go to see all the events and attributes that you’ve got in your Customer.io account. The goal is to give you visibility around the data you’re sending, using (or perhaps not using), and where it’s being used. You’ll find it in the sidebar:

The Data Index is useful for things like:

  • Troubleshooting: Campaigns behaving strangely? See if a particular event is being sent multiple times, or if it’s being used by multiple campsigns.
  • Data cleanup: Data gets messy sometimes. Check if you’ve got attributes or events that are similarly named, or near-duplicates, and verify any inconsistencies.
  • Visibility and clarity: Determine if a particular piece of data you need for a campaign is already being sent to Customer.io, or if you need to send it to us.

Attribute List

This is the default view of the Data Index. Your attributes will appear in alphabetical order:

Viewing a single attribute

To view all the data associated with a single attribute, click its name in the row. You’ll be brought to its detail page:

On this page, you’ll see:

  1. Where the attribute is used in segments, as well as its value in that segment
  2. Where the attribute is used in campaigns, as well as its role: filter, action condition, or a combination
  3. Its five most recent occurrences in Activity Logs, and the data associated with those occurrences

You can also start a segment directly from the attribute! Check it out:

Event List

By default, we’ll list all of the events you’ve sent to Customer.io, in alphabetical order. If you want more details on a particular event, click its name. You’ll be brought to its detail page.
